BENTON- Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington has fired a deputy following the officer's arrest for driving while intoxicated.

Whittington says Jesse Williams Jr., of Benton, was stopped Sunday by state police on La. Highway 3 near Benton on traffic violations.

The sheriff says the trooper noticed the 48-year-old Williams appeared intoxicated with bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and poor balance.

Williams was booked at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility with first-offense DWI and open container violation.

It was unclear whether Williams has an attorney.
