Bossier mayor can't get hiring freeze exemption

The Bossier City Council rejected a hiring freeze exemption for the mayor.
Mayor Lorenz "Lo" Walker's secretary is retiring.
He says the job is critical to day-to-day functioning, and he wants the best person.
Council president Don "Bubba" Williams said other departments had to lay off workers.
He says the retirement will bring the mayor's office in line with the original objective to cut that
office by one person.
