BOSSIER CITY - With nearly one-third of Bossier City's new, automated water meters installed, billing supervisor Judy Vetkoetter says most people who have called to complain about higher bills have been satisfied with the city's explanation.
They're told the new meters are more accurate than the old ones - and the older the previous meter was, the less accurate it was likely to be.
The Times reports that about 8,000 meters have been installed, with another 18,000 to go.
Bodacious Bar-B-Q, with a building more than 20 years old, got a new meter more than a year ago.
Owner Terry Reuther says the restaurant's water bill leaped from $118 to $250 a month.
Part of the increase turned out to be a toilet running all night.
