Bossier bakers take their wares to cable TV
BOSSIER CITY, La.- On a normal day, Kim Wood bakes and sells sweet confections at Buttercups Cupcakes, the company she opened in Bossier City last year.
The Bossier Press-Tribune reported that on Tuesday night, Wood and assistant Mary Craig will be one of four teams seen competing for the top spot on the Food Network show Cupcake Wars.
Cupcake Wars features four top cupcake bakers in a three-stage, elimination-based challenge until only one decorator remains. The top prize is $10,000.
Wood said Food Network contacted her about the show after they saw their fan page on the social networking website, Facebook.
"They called Buttercups and asked if we had ever heard of Cupcake Wars and if we wanted to do it."
Wood and Craig flew to Los Angeles last September for five days of taping.
The panel of judges, included Candace Nelson, owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes, and Florian Bellanger, chef and co-owner of online macaroon company MadMac.
How did they do? Wood said she can't reveal any details before the show airs on cable TV systems Tuesday at 8 p.m. CST.
