Body pulled from lake is that of missing swimmer
NEW ORLEANS - A two-day search for a 21-year-old man who went missing in Lake Pontchartrain as he tried to save another swimmer in distress has ended.
The Times-Picayune reports Keswany Chavez's body was spotted floating in the water about 10:40 a.m. Thursday. An autopsy will be conducted Friday to determine Chavez's cause of death, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner's chief investigator.
Chavez was last seen Tuesday afternoon in waters behind the University of New Orleans. He had jumped into the water to help a friend after the inflatable mattress he was floating on lost its air. Another friend also struggled to help the man. Both made it to shore, but Chavez did not.
