A body was found this afternoon in northern Baton Rouge.
Baton Rouge Police were called to a canal near Alamonster Avenue and Greenwell Street. Sgt. Don Kelly said the body appears to be a white female. The body was not decomposed and appeared to have been in the water for an extended amount of time, possibly from last night or early this morning.
A man going to the canal to fish spotted the body and notified security guards at the Exxon Mobil Plant on Scenic Highway. The guards went down the canal and confirmed it was a body. They called the police around 4:30 p.m.
Police said there were no oblivious injuries to the body. The coroner will be conducting an autopsy either tonight or tomorrow. Sgt. Kelly said they are unsure if this is a homicide or not. Until the coroner determines the cause of death, police will continue to treat it as a homicide.
Anyone that lives in the area or was there in the last 24 hours that may have information pertaining to this case is encouraged to call the Homicide Division at 225-389-4869.
