Body found by boat operator in Red River
NEW ROADS - Sheriff's deputies said they're waiting on autopsy results after a woman's body was found in the Red River in Pointe Coupee Parish this weekend.
Capt. Steve Juge said a tugboat operator found the body and notified them just before 4 p.m. Sunday. It was in the Red River near where it intersects with the Old River.
Juge said they body is an unidentified woman estimated to be between 30 and 50 years old. An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon to try and determine how the person died. He said until then, they were handling this death as a criminal matter.
