Body found floating in Mississippi River
BRAITHWAITE, La. - A body has been recovered from the Mississippi River near the Scarsdale ferry landing in Braithwaite.
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco says the body was found Friday and investigators have positively identified the victim through fingerprints. However, he says the person's identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
The sheriff's office says detectives believe the body had been in the river for two days and it did not appear to have any visible signs of trauma. An autopsy will be conducted to determine an official cause of death.
The Plaquemines Pride Ferry captain reported about 7:23 a.m. seeing a body floating near the ferry landing on the east bank of the river, which is located directly across the river from Belle Chasse.
