A discovery along the Mississippi River in St. Gabriel may solve a missing persons case in Baton Rouge.
A badly burned body was found in a field on Highway 141. Because the body was disfigured and so badly burned, police say dental records will be needed for identification. An unsuspecting resident stumbled upon a gruesome scene.
East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said that it will be a joint investigation until the body is identified. Baton Rouge authorities, including Baton Rouge Police and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, are working with the St. Gabriel Police Department.
The presence of East Baton Rouge authorities has raised speculations that the missing person may be 22-year-old Kasey Eackels. She went missing from a Baton Rouge bar last week.
The LSU FACES Lab will help with the identification process, but they have not given a timeline for when to expect a positive ID.
