ST. HELENA PARISH - Detectives said they're treating the death of a 39-year-old woman found after a house fire Saturday as a homicide.

Details are still scarce, but authorities said they will be releasing more information soon.

The house was burned almost to its foundation and firefighters found the woman after putting out the fire.

Charlotte Matthews, the victim's neighbor, said the woman mostly kept to herself. Matthews said it's important to her that she's close to her neighbors.

"We see somebody and {if} it's a stranger that we don't know and have never seen in the neighborhood, we're going to call each other and basically ask... do you know that person?" she said.

Detective Joe Chaney with the St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office said they are taking every measure they can to assure they are thorough in their investigation.

"So this is something that we are aware can happen in the neighborhood and we just want the public to know, or the folks in the community, if you know anything... that you can help us. Give us a call," said Chaney.
