Boat found in Bayou Manchac, boater still missing
PRARIEVILLE- The search continues this morning for a missing boater in Ascension Parish. There's some new progress in the search. Crews have found the boat that went missing in Monday's storm, but so far, there's still no sign of Allen Fitzgerald.
Crews are searching Bayou Manchac, close to where it meets the Amite river. Fitzgerald and one of his friends were on the water after the storms Monday. When the boat started taking on water, Fitzgerald's friend swam to safety and dialed 9-1-1. Neither man on the boat was wearing a lifejacket..
Yesterday, crews from Wildlife and Fisheries expanded the search for the 24-year-old. Crews have already dragged the bottom of the bayou, searching for Fitzgerald. The high water and swift currents are making the search efforts difficult. Divers won't be sent in until the harsh conditions ease up.
