SPRINGFIELD - Deputies are crediting sharp-eyed neighbors for helping them crack a string of burglaries along Livingston Parish rivers.
Chief Deputy Jason Ard said Terry Pounder, 17, and Eric Brunet, 23, were arrested in suspicion of breaking into several homes and campsites in the parish. Ard says the two even took boats from some property to travel back and forth across the Blind River and Tickfaw River.
Ard said the victims reported the crimes quickly, and their neighbors were able to give them enough information to identify Pounder and Brunet and make an arrest.
Fran Forbes, who lives in that area, says people there are used to looking out for each other.
"One of my friends knew some of the people that were broken into... in the neighborhood right here behind us," she said. "We don't put up with things like that around here."
The stolen items have not been located. Detectives said the suspects told them they had sold the items in Baton Rouge.
