Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana announces plans for a dozen health care fairs to help people in seven parishes hit by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The first will be June 22 in Grand Isle. Most will be at public libraries, and all will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They'll offer health screenings, job information, mental health counseling, refreshments and entertainment for children.
The "Our Home, Louisiana Coalition" includes about nine organizations, including Tulane Community Health Centers, the Louisiana Workforce Commission and United Way.
More information is available at www.ourhomelouisiana.org.
Blue Cross President and CEO Mike Reitz says the health fairs are the start.
He says they'll be assessing needs over the summer and looking at ways to help.
