Bishop Muench on selection of Pope Francis
BATON ROUGE - The bishop of Baton Rouge called the election of Pope Francis a "wonderful selection" for the Catholic church.
"This is a wonderful selection for the worldwide aspect of the Catholic church, and for the Spanish-speaking [Catholics} throughout the world," Bishop Robert Muench said Wednesday afternoon.
Pope Francis is the first pontifex from Latin America, and from the Americas in general.
Muench said his message tonight to Catholics worldwide, "Urbi et Orbi" or "to the City and to the World", was a demonstration of the church's commitment to Catholics everywhere.
News 2's Brittany Weiss will have more on reaction to the new pope from Baton Rouge tonight starting at 5 p.m.
