BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - An armed robbery suspect shot in Biloxi by police was a person of interest in a Louisiana murder.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove identified the man as 56-year-old Carl L. Wise, of Scottsdale, Ariz. Hargrove says that Wise died in surgery from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Michael Lafrance said Wise was wanted in connection with a murder committed Thursday, the day before he allegedly held up two businesses in D'Iberville, Miss.
Detectives said while investigating the murder of 72-year-old James Jones, they discovered Wise, Jones' former co-worker, had been in the area asking people for money. Detectives also suspect Wise of having a drug problem.
On Saturday, one of Wise's relatives notified Plaquemines authorities that Wise had been killed by Biloxi police.
