BATON ROUGE - A Louisiana House committee has approved a bill to consolidate the state driver's education programs, and allow school systems to privatize them.
Some of the current courses and schools fall under the Louisiana Department of Public Safety. High school driver's ed courses fall under the Louisiana Department of Education.
Bill backers say that would reduce liability for the schools, but some lawmakers say they would like more information about the plan before signing off. They are uncertain why the administration is calling for the shift right now.
The bill now goes to the full House for a vote.
