BATON ROUGE- Hundreds of cities across the country have started using “Bike Share” to get around. On Tuesday, the Baton Rouge Environmental Protection Agency is advising city groups on how the system could work in Baton Rouge.

The program offers a variety of benefits, such as: less emissions, ease of transportation and overall health.

Most groups in the city agree that the program would benefit the area, but have different opinions on how it should be implemented.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the EPA is making suggestions to city planners, development groups and the general public about different aspects of the program. The agency will cover topics like how far the bike system can reach, where it could be used the most and how to create safe routes for biking commuters.

News 2’s Rebecca Buchanan talked to people in the area that think the innovative program could be a huge success in the city.

“I think any time you create an activity that gets people more mobile than just driving you create an energetic feel and a healthier lifestyle for the city,” said Baton Rouge resident, Justin Byrd.

The EPA meeting is being held Tuesday night at 6:30 at the Art and Science Museum. You can also take a survey about the proposed program here.
