Big part of health care overhaul to go into effect
WASHINGTON - Many of the major features of the federal health care overhaul go into effect on January 1.
They include new benefits, an insurance mandate, and the risk of more coverage disruptions.
Almost all Americans will be required to have health insurance.
Insurers can no longer turn you away if you have a medical problem and many people will be able to get taxpayer subsidized coverage.
But many insurers say they are getting bad data from the government, resulting in problems in keeping people covered.
Some patients trying to get a prescription refill or take a trip to the emergency could room could be told there is no record of their insurance.
