PLAQUEMINE - Big changes are coming to two boat launches in Iberville Parish. Two grants were recently awarded to the parish to upgrade launches in Bayou Pigeon and Bayou Sorrel.
Donald Marionneaux has been fishing and hunting his entire life. He believes any changes will improve the busy boat launches.
"In the future, it's going to be enormous," Marionneaux said. "Provide a lot more parking area and also provide more things to do down here, just make it more exciting."
Renderings News 2 obtained showed there will be additional boat slips, cleaning stations and restrooms added. Parish leaders started fighting to get improvements at the boat launches ten years ago, after getting suggestions from people in the community.
"Just recently, we had a gorup out here on tour from Pennsylvania," Marionneaux said. "It's providing tourists an opportunity and all sorts of things."
The grants total nearly $800,000 and work should begin by next year on both launches.
"A lot more people will hang out over here, younger people fishing," Mark Vernise said. "That will be nice."
Iberville Parish received the award after submitting a proposal to the state.
