BATON ROUGE- The Big Buddy program is getting ready to celebrate their 17th Day of the Mentor. The annual event is meant to increase awareness for the program and tell people how they can get involved and make a difference in a child's life.

"It's our biggest recruitment event for mentors for young people," says Big Buddy's Gay Mack. "Mentors are so important in young people's lives, especially the young people we target which are under-served youths."

Mack says that mentoring a child is the single best way you can make a difference in a child's life. The Big Buddy program strives to find positive role models for young people to look up to, and the Day of the Mentor is one of their main ways of doing this.

Mentors offer are able to keep kids out of trouble while providing them with opportunities to develop their leadership and academic skills. It also serves as a financially responsible responsible method to curb crime in the area.

Big Buddy's Day of the Mentor will be on Friday, October 23rd from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cortana Mall.

You can find more information about the event at Big Buddy's website or by calling their office at 225-388-9737.
