Bicyclist opens fire on Canonicus Street, charged with attempted second-degree murder

BATON ROUGE- A local man is being charged with attempted second-degree murder for his role in a shooting that took place earlier this month.

Authorities said that on August 20 at 2:25 p.m. the victim was driving his vehicle in the 2900 block of Canonicus Street at Osage Street when he saw a man riding his bicycle on Canonicus Street.

The man on the bike was identified as Keith Sanders.

The victim told authorities Sanders produced a handgun and began firing at him. Fearing for his life, the victim said he sped away.

Authorities said the victim’s car was struck by six rounds, four of the rounds entered through the driver’s door and window. The victim suffered injuries from glass fragments and a piece of a bullet jacket in his arm.

Sanders was charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.
