BATON ROUGE – State school officials are expected to vote today on new biology textbooks that have drawn controversy for not including criticisms of evolution.
The full Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is taking up the issue after the textbooks were recommended by a panel which voted 6 to 1 on Tuesday in favor of the textbooks.
Critics of the books say they don’t do enough to present criticisms of evolution and contain inaccuracies; supporters say that the critics are trying to force religious issues into science classrooms.
News 2’s Mike Steele is at the board meeting and will have the results of today’s vote starting on News 2 at 4.
