BATON ROUGE- The search for the next Superintendent for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System continued today with a visit by Dr. Bernard Taylor, a superintendent in Grand Rapids, Mich. since 2006.
Today, he met with community leaders in Baton Rouge and toured Westdale Middle School.
"Much of the work with teacher reform that is being contemplated by the legislature here in Louisiana, those issues have been dealt with in Michigan already, there are many similarities," Dr. Taylor said.
Taylor applied during the first round of the search, and has big plans for the school system if selected.
"By making sure the focus is on student achievement, fiscal responsibility and efficiency, and make sure we build quality relationships with business and the non profit community," Taylor said.
Although he has believes his ideas will help the school system succeed, he's knows there are hurdles.
"I think the biggest challenge is how you move forward with innovation," Taylor said. "We need to come up with new ideas to attract and retain students to do so in a fiscally prudent manner."
The school board could make a decision this week.
