An Amish leader in Ohio who was the ring-leader in hair and beard-cutting attacks got 15 years in federal prison. The attacks were retaliation against fellow Amish who defied or denounced Samuel Mullet's authoritarian style. Amish women grow their hair long and men grow beards once they marry and cutting either is considered offensive. Fifteen other people who followed Mullet's orders to do the cutting face sentences ranging from one to seven years. Mullet's lawyer says the attacks were an internal religious matter that didn't rise to the level of a hate crime.
