Bayou pumping to continue in Ascension Parish
PRAIRIEVILLE - Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said temporary pumps meant to lower water levels after recent flooding will keep going for the next couple of weeks.
Martinez said the two pumps are draining 68,000 gallons of water per minute from the flooded Bluff Swamp Basin, through Frog Bayou and into Bayou Manchac.
He said Alligator Bayou Road at the Frog Bayou Lock will stay closed while pumping continued.
Water levels in the basin aren't expected to return to normal for another two weeks.
