Bayou Corne residents accepting buyouts
BAYOU CORNE - Some homeowners are taking buyout offers from the company blamed for causing a massive sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
Some residents called the offers low, but said it's their only way out of the mess.
So far Texas Brine LLC has offered buyouts to 88 residents since they began making offers back in May.
Clyde Landry said he didn't agree with the first offer he was given of $127,000, so he made a counter-offer for $140,000 and got that amount.
"I'm just tired of fighting this, and I want to go on with my life," Landry said.
A federal judge gave Texas Brine until June 24 to make offers to all affected residents. The company says it should meet that deadline.
