OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA-  It could take weeks or months to find a solution for bolts that snapped on the new eastern section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the span may not open in time for Labor Day.

The bolts that snapped connect steel earthquake safety devices called shear keys to the deck of the span and a large concrete cap.

The Mayor of Oakland says she needs a timely notification of any delay to avoid impacts on businesses.

A celebration is planned for the opening and Mayor Jean Quan is concerned about the impact on hotels.
