BATON ROUGE- The annual Civil War Battle of Baton Rouge commemorative ceremony is coming back to the capital city.

The Battle of Baton Rouge took place on August 5, 1862 on Magnolia Cemetery’s grounds. Major General John C. Breckinridge led 2,600 confederate troops into Baton Rouge, trying to reclaim the city from Union occupation.

The ceremony will feature a speech from the Port Hudson State Historic Site Interpretive Ranger, Marvin Steinbach.

During the event, attendees will be able to talk about the 9th Battalion Louisiana Infantry that participated in the Battle of Baton Rouge under Major B.R. Chinn.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 1st at the Magnolia Cemetery grounds. It is free and perfect for people of all ages. It will go from 10 to 11 a.m.
