ST. FRANCISVILLE-For years people in St. Francisville have used the Old Ferry landing as a boat launch, but now few will take that chance.
One boater, who doesn't want his identity revealed said, "I want to be sure before I go onto somebody's property."
According to lawyers for the family of Paul Lambert, Sr. it belongs to them.
Attorney Len Kilgore says the Lamberts have been paying property taxes on the land since at least the 1960's.
Nevertheless, a couple of months ago the West Feliciana Parish Police Jury started to pursue its claim on it.
Parish President Ricky Lambert is part of the family that claims to own the property in question.
He tells News 2 he's trying to stay out of the situation as much as possible, even abstaining from the vote earlier this week to hire an attorney to sort it out.
Kilgore says Lambert's attorneys say the public has been able to use the property in the past because of an agreement with the parish.
Boater Scott Thompson says he hopes it will stay that way.
He says, "It's just a good place to come and be able to launch the boat and have a family outing. There are not many places that you can put your boat in."
