The only battered women's emergency shelter in Livingston Parish could re-open by the end of the year.
'Women Outreaching Women' or WOW was forced to close its emergency shelter in January because of money trouble. WOW still provides counseling and support services.
WOW leaders believe they'll need at least $40,000 before they can take women and children in again. News 2 has learned they are well on their way.
A Denham Springs business has agreed to adopt WOW for the year, meaning they'll provide support and hold fundraisers. Holmes Building Materials has already raised more than $12,000. They're committed to holding functions on the first Saturday of every month.
That, combined with other local efforts, could help WOW reach their $40,000 goal before the end of 2010. When that happens, the shelter will reopen.

Thank you Lord. These shelters are really needed back in 1982 I had to go to the shelter in BR. My daughter and I stayed there almost month. Until my family and attorney thought it would be safe enough for me to go home. People just don't realize that u want to get out of that situation but sometimes u just don't have any where to go and if you have a child it is even harder. The business company that is doing this to help needs to be praised and other business in the community need to show support.
