Baton Rouge Zoo opens Indian rhino exhibit
BATON ROUGE - A 2-year-old female Indian rhinoceros has arrived at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo as part of the zoo's new rhino exhibit.
The 2,750 pound rhinoceros came from the zoo in Miami, and is the only Indian rhino in Louisiana. The Baton Rouge Zoo now has two different rhinoceros species.
The new Indian rhino exhibit was made possible with a $150,000 donation from Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo. The area was formerly the home of the Asian elephant exhibit. Construction was completed in June and includes renovations to the barn and exhibit area with new landscaping and walkways.
The zoo eventually hopes to add a male Indian rhino to the exhibit.
