Baton Rouge woman indicted in baby's death
BATON ROUGE - A 28-year-old Baton Rouge woman has been indicted in the death of her infant, who was found dead in a garbage truck more than nine years ago.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged JoAnn King with second-degree murder in the Dec. 6, 2002, killing of "baby Jane Doe."
A second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. If the grand jury had returned a first-degree murder indictment, King would have faced possible penalties of death by lethal injection or life in prison.
District Attorney Hillar Moore III said the case was presented to the grand jury as a second-degree murder.
