Baton Rouge soldiers depart for Afghanistan
BATON ROUGE- It was a tearful day for about 90 Baton Rouge soldiers who are getting ready to deploy.
Soldiers from the Louisiana National 769th battalion said their goodbyes to family and friends as they prepare to depart for Afghanistan.
The Baton Rouge based unit is deploying to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom, to conduct route-clearance operations.
Troops will be gone for a year, most leaving behind their children and spouses.
"It's something you got to think about because especially when they're this young, they're growing so much, and every thing's different whenever you get back," said Brandon Branch.
The soldiers will train in Fort Bliss, Texas for a few weeks before they head overseas.
