Baton Rouge schools advance to Fastpitch 56
BATON ROUGE - Local softball teams had their seasons on the line Friday night, with a shot at advancing to the state quarterfinals and Fastpitch 56 in Sulphur next weekend.
5A teams did the best, with four area teams advancing on to keep their seasons alive: St. Amant, East Ascension, Live Oak, and Denham Springs.
Live Oak had to come back from a 9-8 deficit in the sixth inning, but eventually advanced in walk-off fashion.
St. Amant, EA, and Denham Springs all had easier times with their second-round opponents.
East Ascension pulled the upset with a 4-1 win over CE Byrd.
Denham Springs cruied past Northshore with a 16-6 victory in six innings.
And finally, St. Amant beat up Sulphur 7-2.
Brusly is the only Baton Rouge-area team to advance in the 3A ranks, and 1A is represented by Ascension Catholic, Catholic Pointe Coupee, and St John-Plaquemine.
