Baton Rouge private school gets Blue Ribbon recognition
BATON ROUGE - The U.S. Department of Education has recognized six Louisiana schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools, including a private school in Baton Rouge.
Most Blessed Sacrament School, a Catholic elementary school in Baton Rouge, was the only private school in Louisiana recognized.
Three of the schools are in the New Orleans area: Ella Dolhonde Elementary School and Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies, both in Metairie, and Lake Forest Elementary Charter School in New Orleans.
Other public school winners are Pearl Watson Elementary School in Lake Charles and Morehouse Magnet School in Bastrop.
The Department of Education recognizes schools based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student achievement levels.
