Dept. of Public Safety officer arrested
BATON ROUGE - A Department of Public Safety officer is on desk duty and under investigation after he was arrested last month.
Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 23-year-old James Hammett Dec. 3 after someone at Edgewood Apartments said he broke into his unit and grabbed his wrist.
The tennant told investigators Hammett came to his door and complained about his loud music. After the tennant shut the door, he said Hammett kicked it open and grabbed his wrist.
The man said Hammett was armed with a gun and had a badge, but never identified himself as an officer.
Hammett was charged with Unauthorized Entry and Simple Battery. Doug Cain with Louisiana State Police said Hammett was placed on restricted duty and an administrative investigation into his actions is underway.
