Baton Rouge Police mourn loss of fellow officer
BATON ROUGE- The Baton Rouge Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own. Officer Russ Hernandez passed away Wednesday due to unknown medical conditions.
Hernandez joined the BRPD in 2013. BRPD says during his time on the force, Hernandez received multiple letters of commendations and was an extremely hard worker.
Baton Rouge Police said Hernandez and four other officers were involved in a shooting earlier this year. According to investigators, the officers shot at a Mercedes after the driver attempted to run them down. Investigators determined the officers were in the right.
BRPD released the following statement on their Facebook Page:
"We want to extend our prayers and condolences to Officer Hernandez's family and let them know he will be greatly missed by his BRPD family."
