Baton Rouge man claims $1 million Powerball prize
BATON ROUGE - State lottery officials said a Baton Rouge man claimed his $1 million Powerball prize Friday, the first million-dollar prize this year in Louisiana.
Louisiana Lottery officials said Alex Bookter, 69, matched all five white numbers but missed the red Powerball in the Jan. 29 drawing. He received $700,000 after state and federal taxes.
Bookter told lottery officials he planned to pay off some bills, then visit some of his favorite golf courses across the South.
Officials said Bookter bought the winning ticket at a convenience store on South Foster Drive in Baton Rouge. That store will get a bonus of $10,000, which is 1 percent of the prize.
