There wasn't much optimism at the Baton Rouge General's town hall meeting on Wednesday concerning the Earl K. Long and Our Lady of the Lake merger.
Concerns ranged from the distance trauma patients must travel to whether BR General can handle extra patients. BR General CEO Bill Holman, and most of the medical professionals present, worried they are getting the short changed. Holman says the General has already taken financial hits and can't survive much more.
It's an issue of size, according to LSU System Vice President Fred Cerise. Even though BR General is joining with Tulane University as a teaching hospital, the OLOL will still be a much larger undertaking.
Still, the folks working at the General don not see the difference.
