Baton Rouge Food Week to promote healthy eating

BATON ROUGE - Copper Alvarez visited with Anchor Brittney Weiss during our 4 p.m. broadcast on Wednesday to talk about the upcoming Baton Rouge Food Week, which is a week-long community event to highlight food access issues and promote healthy, affordable food choices in the Capital City.

The schedule of events starts on Oct. 20 and culminates with National Food Day on Oct. 24. The calendar of events and locations around Baton Rouge looks like this:

Monday, Oct. 20: Healthy Corner Store Initiative
--Beechwood Meat Market: 4850 Beechwood Drive
--Capitol Grocery: 701 Spanish Town Road
--Kelly's Food Mart: 7744 Plank Road
--Sewell's Community Grocer: 469 Elmer Avenue

Tuesday, Oct. 21: Cooking Matters for Families
--Scotlandville Library: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (7373 Scenic Highway)
--Star Hill Church: 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. (1400 North Foster Drive)

Thursday, Oct. 23: Eat Healthy BR Program (Restaurants)
--Examples: Mestizo's, Fresh Junkie, Ruffino's, Nino's, The Little Village

Friday, Oct 24: National Day
--Downtown Baton Rouge: Mayor Holden makes an appearance and issues a proclamation that October 24th is Food Day in Baton Rouge
