BATON ROUGE- The Mayor is expected to announce Wednesday that the city received a grant to fund the BRAVE program.
BRAVE, an acronym for Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination, is a technique the city is hoping will tackle crime and intercept violence before it happens.
Several other large cities in the United States have used a similar program.
In Baton Rouge, a special team of officers works in the 70805 zip code. That area has been described as one of the most dangerous. But, officers can patrol the entire parish.
"We had to start there for statistical purposes, for the grant, that what was chosen to start and they are the spear head there," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said recently.
City leaders are expected to release more about the new grant at a news conference set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
