Baton Rouge drivers cash in on some cheap gas
BATON ROUGE - Some lucky drivers in Baton Rouge are catching a break at the pump with cheap gas prices.
There was a steady flow of Costco members waiting in line to get gas for a price they haven’t seen in decades: $1.29.
“I know that it was cheap, but I didn’t realize it was a buck 29 until I drove up. Man, $1.29 that’s unbelievable,” one driver told News 2’s Ambria Washington.
“I wish my tank was more empty,” another driver laughed. “I just filled up not too long ago.”
According to the Associated Press, the average price of gasoline has dropped 5 centers over the past two weeks, to $1.77 a gallon. But drivers in Louisiana are usually paying less than that.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the average price is 56 cents per gallon cheaper than just a year ago.
But will the price of gas continue to slide? Lundberg says it’s unlikely because crude oil prices are not changing.
Drivers in San Diego are paying the most for gas, upwards to $2.40 a gallon. The lowest was $1.42 in Tucson, Arizona. But some lucky drivers cashed in on $1.29 at Costco Friday.
The low prices are surprising drivers passing through Baton Rouge.
“It makes it a lot less expensive to drive from Atlanta to here,” Gerald Beal said. “Probably like a hundred dollars cheaper every time I come with this car.”
