BATON ROUGE – Deputies said a fight between two brothers helped them find and arrest a Baton Rouge contractor wanted for stealing money from a client more than year ago.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office said 52-year-old Craig Brown was hired to repair a roof in May 2014 and stole $2,772 which was supposed to pay for construction supplies.

Deputies said the victim hired Brown and both of them went to ABC Supply Co. to purchase roofing supplies. The victim said Brown told him to wait in the car while he went inside. He later returned with a receipt and said he would deliver the items the following day.

The victim told investigators that Brown did not deliver the items and discovered that Brown canceled the order and the money was refunded. Deputies got a warrant for Brown's arrest after investigators said they couldn't contact him.

Then this past Monday, deputies said they were called to a disturbance involving Brown and his brother on Baja Drive in Baton Rouge. Investigators said Brown's brother told them they had been in a fight over money Brown claimed he was owed, and that Brown had punched him and knocked him down before driving off.

The deputy spotted the vehicle on Hooper Road, stopped Brown and put him under arrest. EBRSO said Brown admitted to arguing and pushing his brother, but denied punching him.

Brown was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and was charged with simple battery. He was also charged with felony theft and contractor’s misapplication of payments for the incident in 2014.
