Baton Rouge Blues Festival brings unique sounds to city
The 2010 Baton Rouge Blues Festival kicked off today at noon despite the threat of dismal weather. The free festival welcomed a Grammy nominee and some other famous names to the stage. Playing this years line up include: 2009 Grammy nominee Ruthie Foster; Chris Thomas King; Tony Joe White; Sonny Landreth; 2009 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Janiva Magness; Tyree Neals; Elvin Killerbee; and Susan Owens. Central High Blues band and Dunham School Jazz ensemble are scheduled to grace the stage, to give the crowd a taste of some young, local talent.
East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden said the festival is the Capital city's chance to showcase what it has to offer through an event that draws crowds from all over the country. Holden said the concert is also dear to his heart because he has a special affinity for the blues.
