Basketball coach accused of soliciting sex from teen
GONZALES - A basketball coach from Gonzales was arrested based on accusations that he solicited sex from a 15-year old girl.
According to investigators, it was the teen's mom who blew the case wide-open after she saw inappropriate contact between her daughter and 26-year-old Adrian Steib Junior.
Steib posted a $10,000 bond following his arrest on charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer aided solicitation. Steib was a coach for the Amateur Athletic Union or AAU. Calls to the AAU were not returned. The AAU is a non-profit organization that promotes sports and other physical programs.
"Because of that bad decision and communication over social media with a 15-year-old juvenile, he may pay for that for quite sometime," Major Kevin Hanna with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said.
William Wright lives a couple of doors down from Steib. He said he is going to be extra careful now, since he has a daughter who is the same age as the girl the accusations aimed at Steib center around.
"If the parents ain't there to watch them, they are very vulnerable to be taken advantage of," Wright said.
Steib came to the door when we showed up at his house, but closed the door when we asked him to talk about his arrest.
According to investigators, if convicted Steib may have to register as a sex offender. We checked his record, he had no prior criminal history.
"He's got to pay the price," Major Hanna said. "He made a bad choice and should have thought about this before he chose to text a 15-year-old."
