Basketball brawl one of two shootings Thursday night; one killed
BATON ROUGE - Police officers worked two near simultaneous shootings Thursday evening.
One person was shot and killed in the at the Berean Seventh Day Adventist gym on Osborne, near the intersection of Choctaw and North Foster. Witnesses said a group of guys got into an argument during a basketball game when shots were fired. Neighbors said they heard several shots from the facility's gymnasium where guys gather regularly for evening games.
Less than two miles away, detectives were also working to connect the dots after a person was shot on North 32nd Street near Lula Avenue. The victim in this shooting was taken to an area hospital, police said.
Police have not released specific information on either shooting. Suspects or motives were unknown as of this post.
The two shootings Thursday evening are the latest in a violent day that left two people dead. Earlier, D'Andre T. Smith, 35, was shot and killed in the 5300 block of Summer Drive. Sheriff's deputies are investigating that shooting.
