Band's tour bus, gawkers force traffic nightmare
BATON ROUGE- State Police said a blown tire is responsible for an interstate shutdown that struck the curiosity of passing drivers and added to a nightmare commute home for thousands of people Tuesday evening.
Around 4 p.m., a tour bus belonging to the band "Inner Circle" crashed. When the tire blew, the bus ran off I-10 West and careened into the newly installed cable barriers, keeping the bus from entering eastbound traffic.
The state said it is proof the barriers work to prevent catastrophic crash scenes.
Band members, who are famous for singing the theme song to the TV show "COPS" were reportedly on the bus when it wrecked, but were not injured.
State traffic monitors said traffic on the other side of the interstate came to a crawl because of rubberneckers trying to get a look at the crash scene. Traffic finally cleared on I-10 in all directions about three hours after the crash.
Investigators did not ticket anyone for the wreck.
