BAKER - The city council will vote to introduce an ordinance to raise water rates at Tuesday's meeting.

Councilwoman Joyce Burgess said she's dedicated to "moving the city forward," and wants to do what's best for residents.

If a decision isn't made soon, the city's fire department rating could drop from a 2 to a 3.

Fire Chief, Danny Edwards said it's an emergency situation.

"We're strained to the limits...And we have to have some relief."

Some residents say they don't think they can afford any additional increase.

"I can't afford it because month to month I'm already deciding whether or not I could buy {groceries} or get my medicine, or even try to buy a little gas to get to the doctor," said Leona Mckines, whose lived in Baker for the past 19 years.
