The Baker City Council has voted to authorize Mayor Harold Rideau to apply for a grant to repair homes damaged in 2008 by hurricanes Gustav or Ike.
If approved, low-income families owning their own residences, but not mobile homes, could apply for assistance.
No action can be taken on applying for these assistance grants until the city's application is approved.
The program would concentrate on roof repairs or replacements, damage to windows and doors, and emergency repairs affecting health and safety.
Assistance up to $7,000 will be provided in the form of a deferred payment loan which does not have to be repaid if the home is not sold within three years following repairs.
