Baker Civic Club president's son accused of dealing marijuana
BAKER - Police arrested a Baker man Tuesday morning after officers said he admitted to selling marijuana out of his car.
Police charged John Mitchell, 21, with drug and stolen weapon possession. Mtichell is the son of Hazel Mitchell who runs the Baker Civic Club, the site of a triple murder involving teenagers in March.
Chief Mike Knaps said a Baker Police officer pulled over Mitchell's vehicle Tuesday morning for a traffic stop and arrested him after Mitchell admitted he may have marijuana in the car. Knaps said detectives had been investigating Mitchell as a possible marijuana dealer for some time, and that Mitchell admitted to detectives after his arrest that he also had marijuana at his home.
Investigators said when they searched Mitchell's room they found two stolen handguns in a drawer, as well as several containers of marijuana. Police said Mitchell told them he had been selling marijuana to pay his bills, and bought the stolen guns from someone off the street in order to protect his family.
Police booked Mitchell into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
Knaps said Hazel Mitchell said she did not know what hers on was up to.
